We Are Turning 4 – A Celebration Beyond Years

We Are Turning 4 – A Celebration Beyond Years

On October 15th, Vanoro Hotel turns four. Birthdays are a good reason to pause and remember where it all began.

Long before it became a boutique hotel, this building was part of Thessaloniki’s working heart. Built in 1937, it served as the Gavriiloglou tobacco warehouse, a place filled with movement, trade, and the rhythm of everyday life.

Decades later, the space changed. In 2021, Vanoro welcomed its first guests, carrying with it a piece of the city’s past into the present.

Today, four years on, we look back with gratitude—for the history that shaped us and for everyone who has walked through our doors since.

From Tobacco Warehouse to Living Landmark

The story of Vanoro starts long before the hotel existed. In 1937, the building was created as the Gavriiloglou tobacco warehouse, part of Thessaloniki’s busy trading life.

When the idea came to give it new life, it felt natural. Instead of replacing the past, the goal was to respect it. To let the old warehouse keep its soul, while opening its doors to a new kind of story, one of hospitality, comfort, and connection.

A Building with Character and Heritage

The story of Vanoro is also the story of the building itself. Today it is officially recognized as a listed building of architectural interest. A status that protects and honors its unique character.

Its facade carries clear Art Deco references: geometric patterns, clean lines, perfect symmetry, and details that balance the strictness of industrial architecture with the elegance of the interwar period.

This is one of the very few buildings of its kind in Thessaloniki that not only survived the passing decades but was also carefully restored and reimagined. Instead of being lost to time, it found a new purpose, transforming from an industrial warehouse into a space that respects its past while opening itself to new stories.

The People Behind Vanoro

Every hotel has its design and its story, but what truly shapes Vanoro is the people who run it every day.

Our team isn’t just here to check guests in or serve a meal. They’re here to make the experience personal. Sometimes with a warm welcome after a long trip, other times with a small detail that makes a stay easier or more pleasant.

Their approach to hospitality is simple: to treat guests with care and respect, without unnecessary formality. To notice what matters, to listen, and to help visitors feel at home while they discover Thessaloniki.

It’s this everyday thoughtfulness, from the reception desk to the restaurant, from housekeeping to management, that gives Vanoro its character and keeps guests coming back.

Four Years of Memories

Looking back, what matters most isn’t the building itself but the people who have passed through. The guests who chose Vanoro, the conversations shared, the memories created. These four years have turned an old warehouse into a place where everyday life and travel meet naturally.

Looking Ahead – A Promise for the Future

Thessaloniki is a city that keeps moving forward, and we want Vanoro to grow with it. Quietly, respectfully, and with the same sense of hospitality that has guided us so far.

A Simple Thank You

As Vanoro turns four, we mostly feel grateful. Grateful for the guests who trusted us with their stays, for the team who makes the hotel feel warm.

Each guest who has stayed with us has added something to that story.

So, to everyone who has walked through our doors: thank you.

For choosing us, for sharing your time here, and for making Vanoro more than just a place to sleep. Here’s to the memories we’ve made and the many still to come.
